Agronomy is one of the premier and foremost department of Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur. The discipline of Agronomy came into existence with the founding of RCA in 1955. However, it spurred into a full fledged post-graduate division in 1962. Standing on the threshold of the first century of the third millennium, the Department of Agronomy of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur stands as a monument of hard work, dedication and ever striving to achieve the goals and objectives of imparting sound and purposeful education of crop and soil management, related research and extension activities. The department has the pride of producing Ph. D. and M. Sc. Students, most of whom have contributed significantly to the cause of self sufficient India. It has been instrumental in conducting practical research for providing basis for the formulation of package of practices for various crops. It's teachers and scientists have always acted as resource persons for training of Agricultural personnels of various categories and groups of farmers in the Directorate of Extension Education. The Instructional Farm managed by this department is the rafter of all crop research as well as research and training activities of students.
Facilities:
Apart from the seating rooms for the faculty, it has class rooms and UG and PG labs. It has a circular/meeting/seminar room. Agronomy has a functional library at departmental level. Presently there are books, thesis and volumes of periodicals like Indian Journal of Agronomy, Fertilizer News, Indian Farming etc. There are UG and PG labs where the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and research schemes and projects carry out their analysis. Where in the UG lab has the basic object of providing learning materials and samples, the PG labs are well equipped with a number of traditional and new laboratory equipments. Few important equipments are Nitrogen Analyser; Computerized Leaf Area Metre; Porometer; TDR soil Moisture Metre; Spectrophotometers; Neutron Moisture Metre; Digital Flame Photometre; Water Table Recorder; Polarimetre and Leaf water potential metre
