The Department of Biochemistry emerged out from Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry in 1976 attaining independent existence. At present, the major activities in the Department are to impart teaching to both UG and PG students and conduct research (both-plan and Non-Plan).
The Department had organized a National Symposium-cum-59th Annual General Body Meeting of the the Society of Biological Chemists (India) in 1990 (27-29 December, 1990).
Facilities:
The Department has well equipped UG and PG laboratories devoted to teaching and research along with a Central Laboratory faciltiy serving the Faculty of Agriculture, by large. Beside, the Department lodges a well equipped Phytochemistry laboratory under the Plan AICRP on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. More than 50 students have obtained Master degree in Biochemistry and employed in Industries, Research and Teaching. |
